Join us to learn strategies and activities to better support academic development in your youth! We will meet for four Wednesdays on the following dates:
Session 1: Wednesday, February 26 - in-person at TBD
Session 2: Wednesday, March 19 - virtual
Session 3: Wednesday, April 16 - virtual
Session 4: Wednesday, May 7 - virtual
All sessions will meet from 10am - 12pm. Brunch will be served at our first session, which is in-person. All subsequent sessions will take place virtually via Zoom.
At our first session, participants will receive a set of Spark Decks that we will be using throughout the cohort:
- Common Core Math
- Common Core Language Arts
- Supporting English Language Learners
- Supporting Youth with Disabilities
Descriptions of what we will cover in each session are outlined below. Please plan to attend all four sessions!
Session 1: Let’s Make Math Fun

Description: Yes, math can be FUN! Your expanded learning program is the perfect place to reinforce math skills and help youth build confidence in their math ability. In this session we will learn and share strategies and activities that will help make it easy to bring more math into your program!
By the end of this session you will:
Walk away with many fun and engaging math activities you can do with your youth to support the Common Core standards.
Learn and share tips for making sure that the activities go smoothly, safely and are fun for all.
Session 2: Strengthening Literacy Skills
Date: Wednesday, March 9, 2025
Time: 10am - 12pm
Description: From read-alouds to making comic books, from debating hot topics to playing Pictionary… in this session we will learn and share ideas for making language arts fun and engaging for youth.
By the end of this session you will:
Feel prepared to weave speaking, listening, reading, and writing into fun, engaging, youth-centered activities throughout the day.
Learn and share useful resources to support infusing literacy into programming.
Session 3: Supporting English Language Learners
Date: Wednesday, April 16, 2025
Time: 10am - 12pm
Description: In this session, participants will learn new ideas for practices and activities that support English Language Learners, both from an academic, and inclusion perspective.
By the end of this session, you will:
Learn research-based best practices to support English Language Learners
Learn and share activities that build English language fluency (in writing, reading, speaking, listening, and cultural awareness)
Session 4: Supporting Youth with Disabilities
Date: Wednesday, May 7, Time: 10am - 12pm
Description: In our final session, we will focus our attention on how to more specifically support the academic success of youth with disabilities in our programs.
By the end of this session, you will:
Understand various ways to better support youth with disabilities
Learn and share strategies for supporting the academic success of all youth in your program
